Inspiration and exuberance were the emotions that people felt as they listened to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s., “I Have a Dream” speech. The momentous speech was delivered on August 26th, 1968, shocking the world with its influential expression of emotion and implication of social injustice. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. proclaims courage to the civil rights activists as he speaks passionately about the need to end racism. In his words, he suggests,“This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” (King) . Dr. King is insisting that there should be equality between one another.
Dr. King was a strong activist for civil rights. He engaged in protests and boycotts to help further his movement of social justice for his race. Throughout all of the rallies where he delivered speeches, the “I Have a Dream Speech” was the most inspiring. This speech massively impacted people, making some feel sympathy, and others of the African American society, hope. In this speech, Dr. King proficiently uses all three rhetorical elements to appeal to his audience. His use of logos, pathos, and ethos make his argument more influential.
Martin Luther King Jr. uses the rhetoric device, logos, to support his claim, and to appeal to his audience using logic. He uses clever language when he adds, “America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked ‘insufficient funds’” (King). He also uses a logical analogy to appeal to his audience through reasoning. He expresses how African Americans deserve just as many rights and just as much respect as the Caucasians.
In his speech, Dr. King goes back 100 years and uses the Emancipation Proclamation as a source. He expresses how President Abraham Lincoln signed the document which declared slaves free, and no longer property. He uses this evide...
