Short Story - The Beach

I hear obnoxiously loud voices coming from the outside of my room and as I enter, there was my sister watching spanish soap operas on the futon listening to what person was trying to make its voice heard. The noise went dead silent after demanding her to turn off the television so we can continue with our plans on going to the beach, to escape the dreadful power of the sun from cooking us like eggs. The beach was the answer and we were ready to go. Now, growing up from Illinois, the largest body of water I had been to was Lake Michigan and I could tell from the car it was no lake at all. Once the family and I arrived to the beach we hopped out of the car like waking up for Christmas morning. Stopping on the shore with my sister Alyssa, we observe what beauty was before us and the sun seemed to be dancing on the body of the Caribbean Sea. Settling my feet onto the warm sand, and eventually my feet start to melt like butter. At the same time it was satisfying to have a smooth surface to walk on barefoot.
Waking up from my daydream due to mother shouting “You need your sun screen! Or you can’t swim!” I rush towards the perfect spot to lay my gear. Once I finally find a spot for my family and get our things set up. I take another look around the beach, countless people from all sizes and shapes trying to avoid the dreadful heat as much as we were. However, not everyone seemed to be in the ocean and wonder if there was something in the water that was causing them to be so afraid of to dive into the water. Finally, making my second trip towards the enormous mass of water and notice this isn’t the size of Lake Michigan or any other lake. The Caribbean sea is much bigger and larger, if I wasn’t careful I’d sweep out to sea and that’d be the last of me.
