The Gift of Magi is a simple, heartful, moving story. It shows us a unique and beautiful love story. The mistress Della had such beautiful hair long and flowed much too pretty to cut. But instead, her life is often poverty-stricken. It has taken her several months to save one dollar and eighty-seven cents. But she insisted on buying a Christmas present for Jim by cutting her hair for money. Though she was sad, she went out to sell off her hair for twenty dollars. Afterward, she was ransacking the stores for Jim's present even though it already seemed too late to find one. Everybody is genuinely moved by Della's deep love for Jim. When she went home with her present, her excitement gave way a little to prudence and cause. Even though she had to cut away at her lovely locks of hair, to her, it was all worth it, She even guessed her husband's favorable response, and thanked God for her husband, Jim.
When Jim finally got home, he found her wife's long hair had been cut off. But after his wife Della told him the reason as to why she cut her hair off, he wasn't angry, nor disapproval. Instead, he said with humor in his voice, " Don't make any mistake about me, Della. I don't think there is anything in the way of haircut or shave or shampoo that could make me like my girl any less." He is sweet and caring towards his wife. What a beautiful description of an affectionate, loyal couple! This story is a paen of couples like them, a comedy about penniless couples who respect and love each other through the toughest of struggles, even if it means some sacrifice. The love between Jim and Della can make these couple whose lives and relationships are ruled by money feel shame.
The story is pervaded through with softly fragrant. In the beginning, their penury is romanced. Della struggled through the high desire and penury; she was stricken with disappointment. She has nothing else to do but "flop down on the shabby little couch and howl," show sadn...
