Farmington and a Locavore Movement

Farmington shouldn’t start a locavore movement because it would cut many foods out of people’s diets possibly having negative effects on their health, harm many businesses, and cause many disagreements on what is right and considered local. If Farmington had a locavore movement, businesses would have a hard time making a profit, as well as some businesses going out of business and having to shut down, changing people’s diets, and harming the local economy.
If only local produce is sold, then profits for other stores and markets will decrease, possibly causing them to go out of business in the future. If businesses are forced to shut down, then there are many other products that we could not purchase because some stores that stay open may not carry the products you need. Also, if there was a locavore movement, then people would be arguing and disagreeing on what is considered local.
If Farmington had a locavore movement, businesses would have a hard time making a profit, as well as some businesses going out of business and having to shut down, change people’s lifestyles against their will because they won’t have a choice but to eat what’s local. If Farmington were to have a locavore movement, it would possibly harm many businesses, even though it will be helping the locally owned businesses. Businesses suchas Wal-mart, Schnucks, and Save-A-Lot would be greatly affected by a locavore movement. These businesses sell a majority of items, but a large part of their sales are produce and other food items. Since their food sales would be gone, then they may go out of business, causing us to not have access to other goods we may need.People already buy fresh fruit and vegetables, but if people want to buy fruit from supermarkets, then that’s their choice. Forcing someone to pay more for fresher produce that they may not want is not right. People should have the right to consume what they want without worrying that it’ll be taken...
