Preparing for College and the Future

Enduring four year of high school, if you can even call it “school”, did not prepare me to become a university student. The expectations of homework and meeting deadlines is nonexistent. We are scheduled to sit in class and study for a test instead of learning the curriculum. Students take the time to socialize rather than taking the time to learn. Educators pass students when no effort is put in class.
If you say the words “homework” or “due tomorrow” to a high school student, it is as if you are speaking a foreign language. Reading a paragraph and analyzing a few, maybe eight questions, was my usual homework. Teachers do not feel the need to give extended work to students, only because they know that it will not be done anyway. Just like a university, students should be challenged, in both, school lectures and at home assignments. Most, if not all, my high school teachers did not give me homework and apply deadlines simply for the fact that students do not apply themselves and are not held accountable for their responsibilities. Needless to say, I am not prepared for the extensive homework I will be given this semester with tight deadlines.
Sitting in class for about 45 minutes and only learning what type of questions will most probably, highly unlikely, the state exam will have definitely did not prepare me for the university weekly exams, quizzes and finals. It is unnecessary for the state to require a passing score on an exam in order to advance to another level of education. Learning and reviewing questions during class is no way a preparation for what is to come, it is not like the university lie style where a subject is taught and a student is required to actually learn something new and test at the final of the semester. In high school the correct curriculum was never taught because students, as well as teachers, are forced to study for an exam that will not aid in student’s educational career. High...
