Narrative - Overcoming Challenges

Throughout one’s life will be a series of heart breaks, obstacles, and challenges. These events, and one’s reaction towards them, are the same incidents that shape a person. Every situation has the potential to break you, and it will without the right mindset. My experiences throughout high school not only showed me what heart break and loss feels like, but also from bad can turn to good. And from good is when you are able to love yourself more and when you love yourself, that is when you find love. My sophomore year, my best friend of eight years, the boy who I thought I would most likely spend the rest of my life with, passed away. After he passed away, I no longer wanted to feel that way towards anyone else. It felt wrong knowing I had to move on and find love with someone else. But after trial and error, I found real love this time.
Sophomore year was the first year I thought about relationships and how love is suppose to be. The idea of spending the rest of your life with your best friend is a tempting thought to have. Your best friend knows you already. They’ve seen you at your very best and they have been there to pick you up at your worst. My best friend knew more things about me than I did. He knew when I was upset, he knew when to leave me alone. He knew what I want to say without me giving the slightest clues. He knew when I'm ready to talk and he knew sometimes there’s just some things I need to figure out on my own. So when I received a phone call on February 26, 2014 at 11:42pm that my best friend was admitted to the hospital three hours prior and may only have a few more days to live, I was confused. How could my best friend be given a limit on his life.? How come we could not prevent this from happening?
