ting Caden, my best friend, the car ride seemed to only be four blinks away. But this time it felt as if my eyes did not want to blink. Almost like they did not want to miss a single detail of the drive. My cousins trying to calm me down and talk to me about my day, but I drown her out as I replayed a voicemail Caden sent me just not too long ago promising he will see me soon and not to worry that he is in and out of the hospital so much. The next voicemail I listened too was him saying he’s sorry for not answering my call but he was working on my sixteenth birthday present, promising it’s something that is “worth getting up everyday for”. The next day, February 27, 2014 he passed away as I was coming back to his room from getting food in the cafeteria. His funeral was a week later. He was supposed to be the one that I spend the rest of my life with. Granted he was 16 and I was 15 we wanted to be apart of each other’s lives. And with him gone it felt unfair that I get to do things he never get to do. I had a chance live, and he didn’t. A few months after his death, I still was not coping well without him. So when I turned sixteen, I, of course, thought I was old enough to do anything I wanted. I started to party and sneak out late at night to meet up with friends to go to parties. Most of the time at parties you will receive attention from other people that you do or don't want. You cannot pick and chose who you want to notice you or not. But I suppose that was the appeal of parties. Meet new people, make new friends, and maybe along the line, develop a few relationships. But being as naive that I was, when a senior basketball player started to talk to me I did not think much of it. I didn’t even know his name.
