The Chapter 5 discussion is about turning your standard laundromat into an eco-friendly environment. A man named Phillipe Christodoulou pursued this idea when he saw a significant amount of deterioration in today’s laundromats. Phillipe took full advantage of this opportunity and decided to start his own sole proprietorship (A business entity that is owned and ran by one person and in which there is no legal distinction between the owner and the business.), which would later turn into a franchise.
Some of the issues that caused Phillipe Christodoulou to create an eco-laundry were poor customer service and a lack of clean environments, which lead to his idea of an Eco Laundry Company. This was an ethical issue (An identifiable problem, situation, or opportunity that requires a person to choose from among several actions that may be evaluated as right or wrong, ethical or unethical.) that he was able to identify. Also, Phillipe was unsatisfied with the amount of customer items that would go missing on a daily basis. In majority of the laundromats there is always little or no customer service at all. Seeing all these flaws in in laundromats made it an obvious to take advantage of the opportunity to change laundromats forever.
Eco Laundry differentiates itself from other laundromats by introducing an alternative machine that are more water and energy efficient than your standard machines. These eco-friendly machines have recycled steel fabricated into their surfaces. Also, Eco Laundromats are painted with oil-free paint, their lights are energy proficient, and their floors are made from organic materials. Eco Laundry also uses biodegradable soaps and detergents. Phillipe also gives back to the environment by planting trees; he has planted more than 300 already. He does this to make up for the amount of water the laundromat still uses.
