The Concept of Virtualization Technology

2 Pages 534 Words May 2017

The concept of virtual machines is a single physical server that can be divided into several virtual machines, and each one will have its own hardware, among them drives, processors, memory, etc. IBM has already embraced its mainframes for nearly 40 years. The difference is that the power of each machine can be raised to the PC platform. So, briefly, virtualization is a technique that allows an application of one operating system (or even an entire operating system) to run on another system. It's the same as opening a Linux distribution on Windows and running it as a software, or installing a Windows application, such as Photoshop, inside Linux.
There are many programs or even particularities of an operating system useful to a particular audience (programmers, or those who use different platforms simultaneously), and virtualization is the simplest solution to have all the necessary software and features on one machine, the easiest to manage. Almost all currently sold computers have more than enough features to host two (or more) operating systems at the same time, without significant performance loss.
Windows 7 itself has a built-in virtualization feature that allows software designed to run on Windows XP and even good old DOS to run unmodified. While the most common view people have of using this technique is that of a large server or datacenter running multiple operating systems at once, with complicated settings and business-oriented, the average user can also benefit from it. But how? If a computer is relatively recent, everyone can do this. And why to do that? For example, many older printers only have drivers and work only in Windows XP, and imagine that you bought a Windows 7 computer. Using free software such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Player, you can run Windows XP as a virtual machine inside Windows 7 and install the drivers on it by using your printer normally. You can also test another operating system, such as ...
