Animal Farm
The animals have been put in prolonged cruel and unjust treatment for too long. In George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm is an allegory about the rise of the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin. Many characters in the novel is based off of many real life figures that took part in the 1917 Russian Revolution. Many of the characters in the novel are corrupted by power and abuse the others in this satirical novel. This can be seen through the actions of the pigs who decide to change their living standards through a rebellion. With all of the power that they have over the other animals, the pigs eventually broke all the rules they made. The pigs have manipulated the other animals into doing all of their work and benefit off of them. The leader of this farm is Napoleon who assumes control of the farm through his cunning tactics and instills fear in the animals with military force. Through the pigs and their leader Napoleon, it is shown how when one is given absolute power, there is no knowing how corrupt he/she will become.
When the rebellion of the pigs is a success, they begin to form their own way of living. At first the rebellion was so that the animals could live on free will and no longer be oppressed. They began to build their own civilization and they all had a role and they all knew how to contribute to the farm. However as time went along, the pigs assumed control over the farm as they were the smartest of the animals. They had good intentions but as they began to lead the animals, they were beginning to abuse their power. “The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership.” (Orwell 17) Although all the animals on the farm were doing their contributions and enduring hard labour for the better of the farm, the pigs are abusing their power and the trust that the other animals have put on them.
