Who was to blame for the
sinking of the Titanic?
The Titanic was a boat that was meant to indestructible, but sunk taking many people’s lives. The blame has been put on many people, but I will be going through the main five: Bruce Ismay, Thomas Andrews, Walter Lord, Captain Smith and the shipbuilders.
I believe that the people who were least to blame for the sinking of the Titanic were the shipbuilders. People think this because there weren’t enough lifeboats to hold everyone on the ship. Lots of people blamed this on the shipbuilders, but they were told to change the designs so they could fit in more first class rooms. The fault is then put on the person that gave those orders and not the builders themselves. Also, the rivets used to hold the Titanic together would become weak and brittle at low temperatures. The people that designed the ship are more to blame for this. They are more to blame because they made the plans for the ship so decided on what materials will be used.
I believe Thomas Andrews was not at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. I believe this because he lived in the early days of ship-making so they didn’t have too much information about how to correctly build ships so that there was a very high chance that no one died. He did not know these when making the ship. He sailed on the Titanic and was one of the first people to spot that it was going to sink. He helped passengers aboard the lifeboats. Surviving passengers said his action weren’t far off heroic. He spent the last moments of his life trying to save other people’s lives.
I believe that Walter Lord was partially to blame for the sinking of the Titanic. He decided to turn off radio communications, which if he hadn’t could have saved lies. But he ignored fireworks thinking that they were just having a party, and decided to ignore it. When he heard iceberg warnings he decided to stop his ship for the night...
