What is a sex offender? The legal definition of a sex offender is a generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sexual components. Some offenses include rape, child molestation, sexual harassment, pornography, indecent exposure, and sodomy (USLegal, 2001). A sex offender can also be defined as a person who exhibits sexual behavior towards others to victimize or perhaps injury. There are two types of sex offenders, non-violent offenders, and violent offenders. Non-violent offenses include crimes such as indecent exposure and statutory rape. Violent offenses include crimes such as rape and child molestation. Many states have different laws and classifications of sex offenders, depending on the crime.
What are the pros and cons of sex offender laws? There are many pros and cons to sex offender laws. The first is the GPS tracker. Some of the pros are that it may be cheaper costs than putting an offender in prison. It also may determine probation violations and help eliminate suspects and investigations into crimes (advantages and disadvantages). Some of the cons are also the cost. It can cost quite a bit of money for the device and to monitor the offender. There are also lots of false alarms. GPS devices can also be cut off. Another sex offender law is the sex offender registry. Some of the pros are that is lets people know where a sex offender lives at all times. It also makes the public feel safer.
