Some of the pros are that it might make the public feel safe by knowing how far a sex offender lives from them. The cons outweigh the pros. Residency restrictions force sex offenders into exile, where they have to live further away from their support system. It also may make it hard for a sex offender to find a place to live, and they might end up homeless. The restrictions also can create a false sense of security; it doesn’t stop people who aren’t sex offenders or sex offenders from committing a crime. It also treats the sex offender like an animal by basically banishing them. Other laws that can affect sex offenders are lawmakers putting mandatory sentences on certain sex crimes.
