rime while working at the Ford Wixom Assembly Plant. A gunman, who was not a Ford Employee, was on the premises. He was armed with an AK-47 and dressed in camouflage when he bypassed Ford security and opened fire on several employees, killing one and injuring others.
Type 2 is violence directed at employees by patrons, consumers, patients or inmates. In 1997, when I was flipping burgers at McDonald's, an angry white-male customer entered the store obnoxiously yelling. He was upset that the drive-thru employee had forgotten his apple pie. As the employee began to apologize to the man, this customer threw his bag of food at the employee and began calling him the N word. The police were notified. Throughout my research I found that employees experiencing this type of violence are those in the healthcare field. According to data from the Bureau of Labor in 2014, Healthcare workers experienced 70 percent of non-fatal violence in their workplace.
Type 3 is violence against coworkers, supervisors, or managers by a present or former employee....
