The Australian Coffee sector consists of all entities, including coffee shops that provide goods for sale that are obtained from coffee beans. These are pure coffee goods such as ground and whole coffee beans and instant coffee goods. Each type of coffee goods has its own intended market. By definition, a market is a set of all real, willing and potential buyers of a good. The pure coffee market comprises of all the real and able buyers of ground or whole coffee beans. The actual coffee market is comprised of all the real and able buyers of instant coffee. Most families in Australia produce and sell coffee. A number of them are encountering substantial difficulties because of the dramatic change of coffee culture, such as the decline in the price of coffee to 100 year low in real terms (Adcock & Halborg, 2001). Since 1970, the prices of coffee have averaged a 3% per year price decrease for Arabica coffees and a 5% decrease for robusta coffee (Adcock & Halborg, 2001). Australia offers a good example of the effect; in Australia, coffee accounts for at least 20percent of the total export earnings. Through some approximations, approximately 100 million people are affected economically by the coffee trade in the world. It goes without claiming that a crop of such importance for some nations, the destabilizing impact of the price crisis sparks concern precipitating bank failures, dramatic falls in export revenues and protests. The implications of the crisis in each nation and region have been according to the sector structure of the state concerned.
In recent years, substantial structural changes in the coffee markets mean new and emerging paradigms are probable to dictate the coffee’s future, which will have permanent impacts on the livelihoods of the millions who rely on it.
