However, these arguments are invalid and not the case. To begin with, beauty pageants are exceedingly expensive. An article from the International Business Times released the average pageant prices for one contestant. According to Kim Gravel, the owner of The Pageant Place, a costume service for beauty pageants, dresses can vary in price from “$700 to $1,000 when bought off the rack, or as much as $8,000 to $10,000 for the major pageants.” (Deninno, N, “The high cost of beauty pageants”, IBTimes.com) Pageant coaches like Gravel are many times hired to coach the girls, which often cost “$100 or more an hour, sometimes three sessions a week.”
Hair and makeup services tend to cost about $250 an hour and a spray tan session may cost about $75. Also, wigs or extensions may cost an average of $200. There are also entry fees that you are mandated to pay when entering a competition.
