Believing in God in the Era of Knowledge

Human beings from the beginning of time have looked for answers for the existence of God. Many of the ideas that have being instilled in western culture come from Christian views. You don’t necessarily have to believe that God exists to have an idea of knowledge. We will look at many theorists who questioned the existence of god and whether being a believer has made humans more closed minded to new found knowledge and insights on human existence. Galileo Galilei was persecuted for his heliocentric view of the universe all because of the churches views on the Aristotelian geocentric theory. Rene Descartes think it is possible for a supreme being to exist, but also questioned, why god left no evidence for us. When you look at John Locke he is skeptical of the idea and believes that evidential proof is needed to believe that God exists. The doctrines of the church were preconceived notions of the Bible that have proven to be wrong time and time again. Yet, still today there are many people who wish to believe in stories and histories that have no factual evidence. God is the center of knowledge and perfection is flawed and strict practices of religion has made humans close-minded to new discoveries.
Galileo Galilei was one of the fathers of the scientific method. He was mainly known for his heliocentric view, which is the sun being the center of our universe. The Church discarded this idea because it went against Christian scriptures. The church believed Aristotle’s view of the geocentric model and that the earth is the center of the universe. Galileo explained the bible is not to be interpreted in a literal sense, but figuratively. As he has quoted “it is not from failing to take count of what others have thought that we have yielded to asserting that the earth is motionless, and holding the contrary to be a mere mathematical caprice, but (if for nothing else) for those reasons that are supplied by piety, religion, the knowledge ...
