The average number of hours’ students spend in school per year is 701 hours. That is about 6 to 8 hours each day. Kids spend so much time in school and yet, there is no change in student’s achievement the past 50 years in the U.S. “In Finland, (the world’s most successful education system) spend 200 hours less per year in class” (Why does education stop in summer?) Maybe it is time for the U.S. to look at examples like Finland and make our education system go higher. Shortening the school day has its benefits, disadvantages, but it will also prepare students to be more successful in the future.
Students go to school for six-plus hours a day and that only benefit the working parents and teachers. Parents do not have to watch their kids and teacher get more pays89989i809. However, the benefits of a shorter school day for students is that they would have more time to do extra educational activities. They do not have to wake up early, which means their attitudes and behaviors would be better. It is proven that the earlier a teenager must wake up the worse their behaviors are (Why should you let your teenager sleep in). Kids lose focus if they are in one place for a long period. So, the shorter the school day the more focus the students are. If kids were more focused in class, they would do better in school and in life. Research shows that students do better with shorter, more frequent brakes (Why does education stop in summer?) in school. It helps their brain to develop more and because “too much study is detrimental to a child’s mental health” (Matthews Joe, Summer brake is important to students and their family). It is time for the U.S. to achieve more by doing less.
Although the shortening of the school day might worry some parents because they don’t know what the kids will do, it will help then in the end. It is hard for a parent not to think about what their kids are up to at that moment. The disadvantages of the sh...
