ricans specifically and use their power over them without regard that they are human beings too. All of enslaved African Americans were oppressed by the hands of powerful white owners, who dictated their fate and embellished everything they did. This social inequality is similar to our current issues, that African Americans are still oppressed by a racially powerful system in which they were violated and controlled by. African Americans once again are being treated lesser and are essentially become oppressed by the hands of white power in America all over again. Ideas like these serve as examples to why the African American community relates this injustice to slavery, the feeling that police brutality is more than just abuse of power, but that their excessive and violent use is directly intended for African Americans. Many people of color today are lead to believe this is no different than early eras in the US, except that racism is now at the hands of our men and women working in the police force and in our judicial systems.
Even within our social constructs, African Americans are perceived differently to white Americans. In Adam Waytz’s article “The Racial Bias Embedded in Darren Wilson’s Testimony”, Waytz sheds light on the idea that African Americans are seen as inhuman by whites. He shows the racial bias in Officer Darren Wilson’s testimony about what happened in the Michael Brown Case. In his statements describing Brown, Officer Wilson depicts Brown as something more than human, more like a superhuman. As stated in the article, Wilson testified that while he was shooting at Brown, “it looked like he was almost bulking up to run through the shots, like it was making him mad that I'm shooting at him” (Wilson).
