This then follows Riefenstahl stating that “19 months later Germany was reborn” this indoctrinating the Germans to believe that Germany is going to become a world power again all down to one man, Hitler. The emphasis on the word “rebirth” creates an impression through connotations that Germany is going to have a new period of life and growth. This is supported by the heroic musical score, which is played from the title sequence through to the opening arrangement when it goes to a panning shot from an airplane in the sky moving through the clouds however it only becomes visible when the sun becomes brighter. Although the plane has now become visible there is still no sign of Hitler, a pilot or any accompanying party. Riefenstahl then uses aerial shots looking down upon the loyal men marching through Nuremburg. There is one shot in particular that stands out for me, the shot where the shadow of the plane is on top of the men as if it is seen as a blessing for them but also suggesting that he is looked up upon by the people maybe even in awe of him. It is believed that “the world of Nazi leaders seems like, Valhalla, a place apart surrounded by cloud and mist, peopled by heroes and ruled from above by Gods” (Barsam, 1975, pg. 27) meaning Hitler.
