I am sure that a child like Mack would have encountered a lot of adults who have told him a lot of false truths, I firmly believe he would needs someone who will be honest with him but also is dedicated. I am sure the conversation with him in the beginning is going to be difficult because being in the foster care system if he has, he probably does not know how to interact with people or possibly express himself. I also think that realizing what he is passionate about, what he is good at so that he may gain some confidence. Not all teenagers are the same, they all like different things. Some like athletics, some are into art and some are into music as well as many other things that he could be made into a positive use of his time.
I would also work to be a support system for someone like Mack is to be involved in who he is and most importantly a person would have to be willing to communicate with him where he is. That may be mean learning some of the slang words he uses, listening to the music he listens to and understanding that in order to truly get some results from his time with you, you must realize that it’s going to be marathon and not a sprint.
