It was a typical Christmas Eve in 1945 for the Sodder family of Fayetteville, West Virginia. Aside from the oldest child being away in the Army, every one of his nine siblings was getting a charge out of the occasions at home with their parents, George and Jennie. George Sodder and Jennie Sodder were Italian immigrants who went to the US (independently) as kids. George began his very own trucking organization in West Virginia, and the two were a regarded white collar class family. Jennie told to them that they could stay up a little while longer, yet they needed to make sure to turn out the lights, close the curtains, and lock the front door. George and Jennie and four of their other children at that point went to bed. At about 12:30 am on Christmas, Jennie Sodder woke up to the telephone ringing. She picked up the telephone and a lady whose voice she didn't recognize mentioned a name that Jennie was not familiar with. She heard different voices and alongside clunking glasses and "unusual giggling." Jennie told the lady that she had the wrong number. The lady laughed strangely and quickly hung up.
Jennie was in shock about the weird phone call in the middle of the night, yet her focus immediately moved to the way that the house was so quiet but the majority of the lights were still on, the curtains were open, and the front door was still unlocked. Jennie then went to go check up on her children who she had given permission to stay up a little later than usual. She saw one of her children (Marion) fast asleep on the couch and decided to pick her up and take her to her roo...
