Background
After school programs have been around for many years providing school age children with enrichment activities, academic assistance and sometimes a small meal. According to a few surveys conducted, about 8.4 million school aged youth in the United States participate in some kind of after school program. With many working parents working well past the normal school hours, after school programs help parents with child care in a safe and supervised facility into the late afternoon. After school programs (ASP) are also great for the community because they help with the growth and development of youth. These programs allow youth to interact with their peers while engaging in positive activities; all while improving their social, artistic, and personal skills.
