Personality is defined as a pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that manifest from the mind. Disorder is described as having abnormal thoughts and unorthodox conduct (Pilgrim). Personality disorder is characterized by persistent inflexible or impaired patterns of thought and behavior that usually cause difficulties in forming and maintaining interpersonal relationships and in meeting the daily demands of one's personal and work life and that typically become apparent during adolescence or early adulthood. (“Definition of PERSONALITY DISORDER”) The most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by APA in 2013 (DMS-5) is a guide by physicians and psychologists to characterize and define mental conditions.
