Robotics: Economic Boom or Bust?

The use of robots worldwide and the application of robotic science is not a recent phenomenon. More than 70 percent of Americans worked on farms over two centuries ago. A new era started with the rapid transition in technology during the time of the Industrial Revolution: The Age of Robots. A robot is an artificial virtual or mechanical being that is controlled by a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robotics is the technology that deals with the construction, installation, and control of robots and their computer system operation. We have led to the subsequent invention of artificial intelligence with the advancement in the science of robotics, i.e. the cognitive ability to enable robots to think, understand, observe, make choices and adapt to their environment in the same way as human beings. The most fascinating analysis that emerges is that robotics has become a key factor in human development because they are specialized in meticulous jobs and they are professional in meticulous jobs that help people accomplish more.
According to his article, “Why Robots Must Take Over Our Jobs” Kevin Kelly, who is a Senior Maverick at Wired magazine, the impact robotics have on our lifestyle. He states that “Today, robots and automation reduced 1% of our jobs. It is expected that, by the end of this century, robotics will have replaced 70% of human jobs”. (Kelly, 24 December 2012) The machines will make their way from working in a fully automated industry to taking on white-collar jobs with quicker speed, improved learning skills and decision-making skills, optimized for the performance of routine transactions and mechanical work. Any task that needs lots of paperwork would then be taken over by robots, including medicine. And fields such as surgery are gradually becoming robotic.
