In Korea, not only adults, but also college students, are having drinking issues. Drinking became one part of campus life. Even the meaning of the “MT” changed from membership training to hazing with drinking alcohols. According to Ewha University Newspaper, there was a death from a fall during the Freshman Orientation in 2009. (Son) Due to this drinking culture, there were incidents related drinking often appears on the campus. It is clear that it is not just an issue; it is the upcoming major problem that Korean Universities will suffer if there are no controls over students. Regarding this issue, establishment of strict policy is needed. There are many examples of universities that already introduced drinking policy. However, all of the U.S. drinking policies did not bring positive outcomes. However, with proper correction on flaws, it is possible to make safety net that students can dwell on. This research paper will determine which policy is better and should be modified and spread out to Korean universities in order to prevent possible drinking accidents. Even though the United States has different regulations on drinking, these examples on drinking policy can be used to immature students in Korean Universities. This research paper will examine the problems caused by drinking, the foreign policy with the reason why it has not worked, and why and how Yonsei’s policy can be the best possibility among Korean Universities. Unlike American Policies Korea Universities can prevent any incidents that can cause by drinking.
There are many series of drinking problems that have been caused by immature university students. According to Saragoza, Hillsdale College has banned drinking games and there must be party monitors present at all on campus events to supervise.
